Energize South Windsor Campaign to Launch July 1st

On July 1, The Town of South Windsor will officially launch “Energize South Windsor.” The campaign is designed to educate and connect residents and businesses with the programs, resources and professionals that will help them save energy and money, and experience a more comfortable home year-round. Energize Connecticut programs are brought to South Windsor by energy experts at CL&P and Yankee Gas, together with a network of authorized home improvement professionals.

Several educational events have been scheduled, including four lighting fairs where residents can learn about and purchase energy-saving LED and CFL light bulbs. The fairs will be held on Saturday, June 21, Saturday, July 19, Saturday, August 23 and Saturday, September 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk, 501 Evergreen Way.

There will also be a workshop on Thursday, June 26 at 7 p.m. at the South Windsor Public Library where residents can learn more about Home Energy Solutions℠ (HES), a convenient in-home service where CL&P-authorized energy specialists will come to your home or apartment and perform on-the-spot energy improvements. While these services are valued at an average of $1,000, the cost for the HES service is only $99, and the average home in Connecticut saves approximately $250 in annual energy costs after completing HES.

A representative from Yankee Gas will be at the workshop as well to present information to South Windsor residents on natural gas opportunities.

“One of the quickest and easiest ways to save money at home is by saving energy,” said South Windsor Mayor M. Saud Anwar. “Luckily, there are a wide variety of Energize Connecticut programs and other resources available to reduce how much energy you use without having to sacrifice comfort or be inconvenienced.”

Mayor Anwar recently signed a pledge to commit to Energize Connecticut’s Clean Energy Communities program, which incentivizes Connecticut cities and towns to support energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Under the Clean Energy Communities program, South Windsor pledged to reduce municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent by 2018, attain 20 percent of municipal electricity needs from renewable sources by 2018, or take other actions to support the deployment of clean energy. CL&P and the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) will work with the town to achieve this goal.

Based on the level of resident participation in energy-saving programs, South Windsor can earn a $10,000 Bright Idea Grant through the program to be used toward a community-selected energy-saving project.

To date, approximately 100 Connecticut cities and towns have signed the Clean Energy Communities pledge to reduce their municipal energy consumption and support clean, renewable energy.
