Registration Now Open for Connecticut Technical High School System's Free TECHNOcamp

Summer camps allow emerging 8th graders to “test drive” trade and technology careers

(MIDDLETOWN, Conn., April 23, 2014) – Registration is now open for TECHNOcamp, the Connecticut Technical High School System’s (CTHSS) free trade and technology summer camp program. Emerging 8th grade students within the Hartford region may register for a free three-week TECHNOcamp and explore one of many technical career options. This opportunity to test drive a trade and technology career provides students with a competitive edge towards pursuing a future education and career in a trade or technical industry.

TECHNOcamps will take place at Vinal Technical High School in Middletown and A.I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford from June 30 – July 17 and July 7 – 24, respectively. During each three-week session, TECHNOcamp we be held Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. daily. Camp participants will receive a free breakfast, snack and lunch, and no cost transportation will be provided by geographic location.

TECHNOcamp programs will be lead by teachers certified in their respective trade or technology fields. Students will be able to select from the following innovative programs: Bioscience and Environmental Technology; Carpentry; Collision Repair; Culinary Arts; Electrical; Electro Mechanical; Fashion Merchandising and Entrepreneurship; Graphics; Hair Dressing and Barbering; Information Systems Technology; Manufacturing; Masonry; and Music Production. Programs subject to change. 

Since their start in 2008, more than 1,000 students have experienced CTHSS’ TECHNOcamp programs.

“TECHNOcamp opens new doors for students who are thinking outside the traditional high school experience,” said Lyn Caliendo, supervisor of the Connecticut Technical High Schools System TECHNOcamp. “Students are exposed to hands-on technologies and trades during this summer experience. The camps provide a great environment for students to learn and begin exploring their futures.”

Registration for Vinal Technical High School runs through June 13 and A.I. Prince Technical High School runs through June 20. Space is limited. For a full list of camp programs or to register a student, please visit cttech.org.
