South Windsor Instructor Named USA Taekwondo National Team Coach

Owner of Styles United Transformative Martial Arts certified to coach Team USA.

USA Taekwondo, the national governing body (NGB) of Taekwondo for the United States Olympic Committee, has named South Windsor instructor Alvaro Mendez a USA Taekwondo National Team Coach.

Alvaro Mendez (known as Master Mendez to his students) is the owner of Styles United Transformative Martial Arts in South Windsor and is a 4th degree black belt master instructor of Taekwondo, with more than 20 years of experience in Taekwondo, as a student, competitor and as a coach.

Master Mendez will make his debut coaching Team USA at the 7th Pan American International Taekwondo Championships in Queretaro, Mexico, Sept. 16-22, 2013.  In this role, Mendez will coach World Class athletes from across our nation including one of his own athletes, a five time USA National Taekwondo Team Member, Kelsey Junious of South Windsor.   

Master Mendez is a level two certified coach; which is currently the highest level of certification that can be achieved through USA Taekwondo.  Master Mendez also holds a bachelor’s degree in the Sciences of Education and is an academic professional.

Master Mendez specializes in Olympic Sport Taekwondo training and has a well-designed program to help develop his athletes from beginners to world class athletes. Over the last six years Master Mendez has developed several USA National Champions, US Open Taekwondo Champions, as well as Junior and Senior USA National Team Members that include Griffin Beland of Storrs, Jalen Junious of South Windsor, Ceana Rodriguez of New Britain and Daria Torrenti of Orange, CT.
