South Windsor's Little Library Dedication

EVENT: Unveiling of LITTLE FREE LIBRARY in honor of Dr.
Suzanne Imondi
WHO: South Windsor Cub Scouts Den 9 of pack 389
WHEN: Sunday May 4th 1pm
WHERE: Boundless Play Ground, 150 Nevers Road, South Windsor CT.

WHY: 10 year old Cub Scout Dominic Imondi lost his mother Suzanne to Breast Cancer on May 30th 2012 after a seven year battle with the disease. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in 2004, Dr. Hebert-Imondi left her profession and focused on advocacy and education for fellow patients with metastatic breast cancer. She became vice president of Metastatic Breast Cancer Network, a national patient advocacy group dedicated to the unique concerns of patients living with metastatic breast cancer. Her valiant battle with cancer and her national accomplishments in cancer advocacy have been featured in The New York Times, "ABC Nightly News," The Wall Street Journal and Cancer Today magazine. She was the winner of the 2011 National Ladies Home Journal Power of Ten Award, which recognizes women who have made a difference in their community.

The Webelo scouts in Den 9 were deeply moved to express their condolences to fellow scout Dominic, his sister Grace and dad David. They felt the perfect way to honor Mrs. Imondi would be with a service project in her name.  The Little Free Library organization was discovered on the internet and with the help of The Home Depot in Manchester, Lot’s & More and Petersons Hardware in South Windsor the project was finished and the dedication is set May 4th at 1pm.

“The Little Free Library” creates a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories.  In its most basic form, a “Little Free Library” is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share.

The event will feature live music by John Mayock, free snacks, children’s crafts and information booths pertaining to Cancer awareness. The Indian Valley Family YMCA in Ellington has organized a bike ride in Suzanne’s name to coincide with the dedication event.
