Things to do in South Windsor

As a Financial Advisor here in South Windsor I manage client’s family assets and I sometimes forget to take time to manage my biggest asset, my family. I forget to take the time to enjoy what’s right here around me. I’m sure you do the same from time to time. All work and no play is not a very good combination.
I feel like im always working around the clock. While the summer season is quickly approaching I need to take the time to enjoy what’s right around me here in South Windsor. This town has so much to offer and as life gets busier we tend to miss out what is in our own backyard. I wanted to change it up this time and talk about 4 hidden treasures for you and your families in 2 parts.  I grew up a few miles from the beach in Long Island and to this day I still miss the smell of the salt water in the morning.  Now that I am living in CT I have to say I do like the lifestyle here even though the beach isn’t down the block.

I just need to get out and spend more time with my children before they are off to college, its 12 years away but time fly’s when you’re having fun.  So here are 4 things in South Windsor that my family enjoys to do and you may want to check them for your family.
1.       Old Main Street, I just have to say that I have loved this street since the first time I drove down it while looking for a place to live. I take my kids down there all the time to see the horses. Now that the kids are getting older it looks like a great place for a bike ride as well.  It’s so amazing how much history is on that block, the beauty of all the homes and horse farms. I like to work our way down to the street towards Wood Memorial Library, which by the way is have its annual golf tournament on June 20th http://www.woodgolf.org/.  We stop in and check out the Museum of the arrowheads that have been found here in South Windsor. Then continue down to the horse stables where we take a walk around checking out all the horses.  Once we got lucky and arrived shortly after the birth of a few new foals. Alos did you know Main Street has a Wine Vineyard as well?  Blake Vineyards is off of Pleasant Valley and is a small private family run vineyard that Neil Caron of Freedom Mortgage and South Windsor resident took over after the passing of John Blake to keep his legacy and passion of wine making going. https://www.facebook.com/blakevine. It was also just in The Journal Inquirer last month. http://journalinquirer.mycapture.com/mycapture/enlarge.asp?image=46685305&event=1635242&CategoryID=45476&picnum=20&move=F&Slideshow=Stop#Image

2.       My children’s favorite place is a wonderful spot right here in South Windsor on Ellington Road.  It’s The South Windsor Swim and Tennis Club and we spend most of our summer there http://www.southwindsorswimclub.com/  The SWSTC is a private pool and tennis club that was started about 40 years ago by families looking for a place to spend their summers.  There is a beautiful 25meter pool with 2 diving boards and a great kiddie pool, which is fenced in and separates from the large pool.  The large pool and the rest of the grounds are also entirely fenced in. There are 4 clay tennis courts and one basketball court. Membership is limited to only 200 families so it’s a small and friendly community where we have made some great friends. The lifeguards are amazing and my children can’t wait to go back and see them.  The guards make it a point to know each kid by name so they aren’t just another face in the crowd. The SWSTC offers a swim team, a dive team and a tennis team, and what got me was 8 weeks of swimming lessons and tennis lessons. A good thing about the club community is that many club members have been members since childhood.   Over the two years that we have been members my children have made many fabulous memories already. After a long day in the office I head down to cook dinner on the grill, jump in the pool and just enjoy the time with my family in the hot summer months.

Next week i will post the rest. GO Enjoy the weekend!!!!!!
