Hello South Windsor Community.  I am conducting research on what Caldor was like when it was open in the 90's, right before it closed due to bankruptcy.  If you have a positive or negative story to share with me about Caldor, please post a comment here, or write to me at:

I know the question was for sharing memories of Caldor in the 90's, however, my response is also not limited to that span of time. To the questioner, just think of it as getting more bang for your buck. Caldor in the 70's was the scene of my financial independence as a woman. On one of my visits to the store, I was approached by a man looking for credit card applicants. I was amazed because women were not approved for the major credit cards in that era. It was for Visa or MasterCard. I completed the application and the rest is history! As far as the merchandise goes, I mainly shopped for my children and our home. I recall buying a couple of very cute sundresses for myself and some cute costume jewelry that I still own. Great store; it was clean and well managed plus it did not stock junk.

I would be interested if it were an eCommerce store...I had great memories of Caldor when I lived in CT, but not such great memories of the Caldor in Totowa, NJ. After being flagged for not paying for some blank VHS tapes (which were on the receipt, so I did pay), I swore never to go to Caldor again.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments. It was great to read through them all. I encourage you to visit Caldor.com once the business is open. Together we can bring home the difference.
