To the Editor:
This is to congratulate state Sen. Gary LeBeau for his leadership as co-chairman of the Labor and Economic Development Committee at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). In particular, he was instrumental this past August in adding to a major NCSL policy directive a provision to preserve the mortgage interest deduction (MID).
The MID is a critically important tax policy that supports home ownership and is essential to keep in place to grow momentum for a slowly recovering real estate and home building industry and, consequently, our economy.
So, thank you senator for recognizing and supporting the critical role housing and home construction play in our state’s and nation’s economic health. If we’re smart about a lot of tax and regulatory policies, housing’s and the economy’s best days are ahead of us.
