DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Route 44 on Thursday

Coventry Police and Metro Traffic Services, which includes South Windsor, are hosting the checkpoint.

The Coventry Police Department will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Route 44 on Thursday night into Friday morning. 

The checkpoint will begin at approximately 7 p.m. on April 25 and run until approximately 2 a.m. on April 26.

Traffic in both directions will be affected, police said. The checkpoint is a joint operation between Coventry police and Metro Traffic Services, which includes the Coventry, Enfield, South Windsor, Windsor, Windsor Locks,East Windsor, Manchester, Glastonbury, and Vernon departments.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation provides grant funding to local police agencies to help in these efforts through the federal DOT.

Coventry Police Chief Mark Palmer said that driver cooperation will ensure only "minimal delays" as officers guide them through the checkpoint.
