South Windsor Man Accused of Leading Police on High-Speed Chase

A high-speed motor vehicle chase that started in Hartford ended in South Windsor on Saturday with a South Windsor man facing several charges.

The saga started when the accused’s mother contacted South Windsor police to look for her 2005 Ford Taurus, which she said she believed Marc Epstein had taken into Hartford to obtain drugs, according to police spokesman Lt. Scott Custer.

While on the phone with her, South Windsor dispatch received word that Hartford police were in a high-speed pursuit of the Taurus, allegedly driven by Epstein, on I-84 East, Custer said.

Epstein, Custer said, exited at Vernon and drove into South Windsor via Kelly Road.

Eventually the South Windsor police broke off the pursuit when Epstein drove over a lawn and knocked over a mailbox, Custer said.

South Windsor police later spotted Epstein walking near Wapping Church and took him into custody, Custer said.

Epstein had reportedly driven down Route 174 and parked the car in the Town Hall complex.

South Windsor police charged Epstein with several motor vehicle violations. According to the Connecticut Judicial website, he was also charged by Hartford police with reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit.
