South Windsor Man Charged With Robbing Liquor Store

Suspect, 18, reportedly showed a fake handgun, then fled.

Police have arrested a young man who reportedly robbed a Sullivan Avenue liquor store Friday night.

According to South Windsor police, the owner of the liquor store called police around 9 p.m. Friday to report a young man in dark clothes robbed his store with a handgun, then fled the store on foot toward Sullivan Avenue and Ayers Road.

Officer Kyle LaPorte found the suspect on Ayers Road and after a short foot chase, took him into custody on Mountain View Drive, police said.

Jamal Butler, 18, of 367 Smith St., South Windsor, was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. Officers recovered the stolen items as well as the suspect’s mask and a fake handgun.

Butler was held on a $100,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Monday, Sept. 23.
