South Windsor Police Department's Tip-A-Cop a Success

Event raised about $6,000 for Special Olympics CT.

Despite the traffic in the area, the South Windsor Police Department’s Tip-A-Cop at The Red Onion Restaurant held on Thursday to benefit Special Olympics CT was resounding success.

The event, which has been held for years, raised about $6,000, according to Agent Ron Littell. That’s despite the construction in front of the restaurant, which may have deterred some people from stopping in.

“The support from people working in town, people who work for the town, the cops, the waitresses [has been tremendous],” said Littell as Town Councilor Cary Prague handed him a $20 donation. “I can’t thank them enough.”

Mayor Tom Delnicki, who was dining at The Red Onion, said that he enjoys coming to the event every year.

“What a wonderful night,” Delnicki said. “It’s great to see a fundraiser like this.”

And, Delnicki quipped that it was more fun to Tip-A-Cop than get a ticket.

“And it sure is a lot more fun to Tip-A-Cop than it is jumping into Crystal Lake,” Delnicki said in reference to this year’s frigid Penguin Plunge in Ellington.

Littell said that for those who did not make it to the restaurant Thursday, there are still events planned for more fundraisers for Special Olympics CT, including Cop-On-Top later this summer and the Haunted Torch Walk on Oct. 19.

In addition, anyone who still wishes to make a donation may do so by making a check out to “Special Olympics Tip-A-Cop” and mail it to the South Windsor Police Department, ℅ Ron Littell, 151 Sand Hill Road, South Windsor, CT 06074.
