South Windsor Police: Target Employee Stole iPads

Nelson Diaz, 25, of West Hartford, is facing a charge of third-degree larceny.

A former employee of Target in South Windsor is facing a larceny charge for allegedly stealing $3,700 worth of iPads from the store, according to police.

South Windsor Police on Monday charged Nelson Diaz, 25, of West Hartford, with larceny in the third degree. He was later released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and he is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on June 20.

According to police, when confronted, Diaz admitted to store security on April 6 that he had taken eight iPads - some were full size, while others were minis, according to Sgt. Scott Custer.

Diaz, a long-time sales associate, told the store's representatives that he took the iPads because he owed someone money.

Diaz said that he would repay the store, but Target representatives did not hear from him by April 20. The store then contacted South Windsor police, whom Diaz told that he was working on getting the iPads back.

When police did not hear back from him, they obtained an arrest warrant, whereupon Diaz turned himself in on Monday.
