South Windsor Police to Hold Car Seat Clinic

Event will take place on Feb. 8 from 1 to 6 p.m. at South Windsor Fire Department headquarters.

Four out of every five child car seats are incorrectly installed, according to South Windsor Police Sgt. Scott Custer.

“People just don’t read the instructions and don’t properly install the seats in the car,” Custer said in a telephone interview. “There are different types of cars and different types of seats and it can be frustrating for parents to get them fitted tight.”

To help correct that stunning statistic, the South Windsor Police Department will host a car seat clinic on Friday, Feb. 8 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at South Windsor Fire Headquarters, 1175 Ellington Road.

The police department already holds a weekly clinic on Wednesday mornings. This special event is designed to be more convenient for those who cannot make it at those times, Custer said.

Custer said that a couple dozen people take advantage of the special events and the department tends to get a lot of positive feedback after holding the clinics.

There is no cost for the service. For additional information, contact Community Outreach Sgt. Tom Field at 860-648-6224 or thomas.field@southwindsor.org.
