A Willimantic woman was picked up by South Windsor police Wednesday after being caught allegedly shoplifting with her child.
Peggy Leblanc, 42, was charged with larceny in the sixth degree, failure to obey an officer’s signal, possession of a shoplifting device, interfering with a police officer and risk of injury to a minor after she was seen by plainclothes officers at Evergreen Walk putting clothing from GAP Kids in her purse.
According to a press release, Leblanc “was in the company of a small child.”
According to police, “an officer approached the woman as she was opening her car door and identified himself as an officer. The woman pushed her child into the car and drove off.”
Leblanc was eventually taken into custody in a nearby parking lot, according to police. The child was turned over to another family member.
Leblanc was later released on a $25,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Aug. 23.
Sgt. Scott Custer said that the arrest was made as a result of a partnership between the South Windsor police department and retail outlets.
