Delnicki Says He Secured More Than 300 Signatures

Mayor Tom Delnicki collected 331 signatures to force a Republican primary for seats on the Town Council.

Mayor Tom Delnicki told Patch this week that he obtained 331 signatures to force a Republican primary for seats on the Town Council next month, which he said is a strong indication that South Windsor residents want to see his name on the ballot.

"It was heartwarming when I was collecting signatures," Delnicki told Patch. "People want to see me on the ballet."

Delnicki needed to obtain signatures on a petition from five percent of registered Republicans in town by Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013. That worked out to 173 signatures from the town's 3,461 registered Republicans.

He said that he and seven other members of his "team" were able to collect 331 verified signatures, which he submitted to the Registrars office in town by the deadline.

The primary will cost the town an estimated $11,000 to $13,000

The primary will be held Tuesday, on Sept. 10, 2013. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.
