A Chili Cook Off, a Movie, a Photography Exhibition, and More Around South Windsor This Weekend

Check out what is going on in the region this weekend.

Computer Repair Day
Saturday, 9 a.m. - Is your computer running slow? Do you want to get rid of spyware and viruses? Is it time for a cleaning? Do you need to upgrade security patches? Or do you just want to optimize the performance of your computer? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then bring your computer down to the West Suffield Congregational Church Hall. Computer experts from Bigfoot Labs – The “Computer Guys to the Rich and Famous” will be there to fix your computer or lap top for just $40 (plus parts if needed). You don’t even need to bring the monitor, keyboard, or any cords with you. The computer guys, Dan Kehoe and Eric Fistler, will have those on hand. No problem is too big or too small for them. If you don’t have any problems and just need some helpful advice, stop by too. And the best part - for most repairs, you can drop it off and pick it up later that very same day. Laptops are welcome too, but they will need the AC adapter for those. If you have any questions, you can call Dan at 860-574-3668 or e-mail support@bigfootlabs.com for more information.

Pet Adoption
Saturday, 10 a.m. - Come meet the many wonderful cats, kittens, and dogs attending the adoption event at the Program Center in Manchester. Applications will be collected, but no pets will go home directly from the event.

New England Regional Women's Invitational Chili Cook Off

Saturday, noon - The New England Regional Women's Invitational Chili Cook Off will benefit Enfield's Amanda Jordan. She is a Marine widow and is suffering from stage four cancer. Doors open at noon and since it is a "women's cook off," all male cooks will be dressed as women. Admission is $8 at the door and 100 percent of the proceeds will help Jordan as she is in the fight of her life. This is an opportunity to truly support someone who has given so much for us and our country.

Movies on Main: A Tribute to Mystery Science Theater 3000
Saturday, 1 p.m. - Last year marked the 25th anniversary of Mystery Science Theater 3000, the cult TV program about robots in space riffing on cheesy movies. In tribute to this cult favorite, there will be a screening of the 1985 film The Galaxy Invader. Schlock sci-fi at its best! An alien is hunted by a gang of drunken hillbillies who saw him crash-land his spaceship. Join for an afternoon of laughs and shenanigans! Bring your own robots if you're feeling particularly nostalgic. Admission is free. For more information, e-mail Evelyn Angry-Smith at eangrysmith@manchestercc.edu or 860-512-2874.

Photography Exhibition: New Construction
Saturday, 5 p.m. - The exhibition New Construction, at the Windsor Art Center, features six photographers who construct, assemble or otherwise build contemporary images often using the material of traditional still life – objects, artifacts, flora, and fauna. Each photographer brings his or her own unique perspective and to varying degrees, the power of the cutting-edge digital toolbox to this venerable genre. Participating artists include, curator Daniel Mosher Long, Olivia Parker, Kevin Van Aelst, Rebecca Clark, Kimberly Witham, and Kim Kauffman. The exhibition opens with a reception for the artists at 5 p.m. The show continues through Feb. 22. The public is invited to attend the reception and exhibition.
