Bot, talk about an uninformed public !

Clinton "played a central role in restoring America's standing in the world."Read More ???..............Can someone please provide specific examples of what she has done to accomplish this? Has America's standing improved or weakened in the past 6 years?

Agree with Milton 100%. In the positions of Secretary of State, Senator and First Lady, whatRead More specifically has Hillary accomplished in any one. Someone tell me one thing? Frankly, if not for Bubba being President, I don't think she would have held any of these positions. After 8 years with a rookie in office, I don't think I want to do it again for the sake of political correctness. There are many other qualified woman than her who could be President.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Kim McCoy April 23, 2014 at 01:53 pm
Maria Young, I think you're on to something there. Since the activist judges are forcing one statesRead More marriage laws onto other states, I think it only fitting that the judgement of the Supreme Court should apply to every state. No state should be allowed to practice affirmative action now...NONE.
"The Black Panther of Poetry" April 23, 2014 at 01:58 pm
Fair is Fair!!! Now if we can only get Affirmative Action totally out of such sports as BasketballRead More and Football and the Music industry, to name a few, which African-Americans are by far the most innovative and talented and who very essence has kept it alive so that others could thrive and benefit from. The minorities in these financially lucrative areas of our society is truly and obviously inferior but yet is given a shoe in because there race promotes, finance and overly spectates in these Professions by default in a sense because they have the "wherewithall" to do so because of centuries of discrimination and also present discrimination and Social Stratification.
Jeanne April 23, 2014 at 02:09 pm
Wouldn't the fairest admission to University be judged completely by scholastic ability ? ThatRead More would mean not accepting students because of sex, color, class, ethnicity, or prior connection to the school. The college population might become a little "lopsided," but wouldn't the result be more intelligent young people to go on to graduate school ? America, and the general public would benefit because in our midst would be the best scientists, doctors, instructors, etc. for us to call upon ? Our country would become stronger still, which seems to become more urgent with every passing day.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Jennifer April 23, 2014 at 01:57 pm
Fred Austin, all you did was cut and paste from the Common Core website. It claims that teachers ,Read More parents, administrators..."provided input", but it does NOT say Who. At what point. Who paid them to give their opinion? What were their qualifications? At least I provided two names, Jim Milgrim and Sandra Slotsky, their function (the ONLY content specialists on the validation committee) , and the fact that they refused to sign off on the standards. I also provided a link to a documentary that IS anti- common core, but if you refuse to watch it at all for that reason, then you arent really open to hearing anything you dont want to hear. I linked it BECASUE Sandra Slotsky and Jim Milgrim are interviewed in it about exactly what they found objectionable. You won't find that out by reading the CC website.
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 01:59 pm
Jennifer: I provided a list the 'who's' from Wisconsin that participated. They aren't on theRead More national CC website because each state selected their own teams to provide input toward the development of the Common Core standards.
Jennifer April 23, 2014 at 02:04 pm
It also says "State education chiefs and Governors came together to develop the Common core. NoRead More governor actually sat down and wrote anything. What it should say is that "Two organizations, state education chiefs, plus the National Governors Association,, agreed to allow consultants paid for by Bill Gates and Achieve, among other corporate interests, to write standards for all American Children without input from child development experts or content specialists> They then agreed to allow this group of corporate interests to pay for experts to validate the standards they had created. Some prominent educators refused to do so, so they were expunged from the record. " That would be more accurate than the PR you cut and pasted from the CC website.

Should plastic bags be a thing of the past?
lmf59 April 23, 2014 at 01:28 pm
Let's just outlaw everything made of plastic. And paper. And all metals. And cardboard. And glass.Read More And vinyl. And aluminum. And those little green bread clips...such a hazard, since they are both plastic and aluminum. Let's have the police come door to door to confiscate the bags we hide away in our homes and ticket everyone with bags in their possession. OR..........Let's recycle whatever we can. You know, like most of us do already anyway.
Igor April 23, 2014 at 01:38 pm
Speaking of recycling. We recycle our cans. The cans need to be clean before we drop them off at theRead More transfer station. I wondering how much fuel is being used to generate the hot water (plus the water) to wash them. Is it a even trade off? If anyone could figure this out I really am curious.

I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Agranon - I'm a moron because I am tired of everybody and his mother trying to put themselves inRead More every story? Then so be it - I'm a moron. To be honest, I am also really tired of all the people that were compelled to run the Boston Marathon because "I had to finish for all those who couldn't." Get over yourself. It was a tragedy. Those responsible should be ripped apart by dogs. I sincerely hope the families of those affected can move on somehow. But how does Mary Jane Smith running the marathon help ANYBODY but herself? She's not doing it for "those who can't". She's doing it to maybe get on TV and she's probably feeling a little sanctimonious because she ran 26.2 miles and you didn't. It's like, "what did YOU do to help these people?" Same as you - nothing.

@Wbyguy... Oh Really? Joel April 22, 2014 at 01:26 pm
Here's more... FromRead More http://www.climate.gov/news-features/climate-qa/why-did-earth%E2%80%99s-surface-temperature-stop-rising-past-decade Why did Earth’s surface temperature stop rising in the past decade? The most likely explanation for the lack of significant warming at the Earth’s surface in the past decade or so is that natural climate cycles—a series of La Niña events and a negative phase of the lesser-known Pacific Decadal Oscillation—caused shifts in ocean circulation patterns that moved some excess heat into the deep ocean. Hmmmm... So much for your theory that the Earth has been warming for the last 140 years! You also say "It has had the most precipitous rate of warming in the past 40 years". No, sorry, not true again. You can't just make stuff up and expect that everyone will believe you.

Kendall Svengalis April 22, 2014 at 11:46 am
The ICLEI site listed above is nothing more than ICLEI propaganda central. Among its goals:Read More combatting "climate change" based on the fraud of global warming. Beware whenever you read or hear the words "carbon footprint," or "climate protection." These are just U.N. sponsored buzzwords and efforts to intrude into matters of local control, property rights, and freedom. ironically, as globally-average temperatures have flatlined for the past 17 years, the U.N. has gotten more shrill in its predictions of "catastrophic global warming." Why? Because they're losing the debate and are afraid they won't have the rationale for global income redistribuition. At the heart of the global warming fraud is the notion that the mild (one-third of a degree Celsius) and brief (1978-1997) temperature rise we experienced was caused by carbon dioxide. This has never been more than a half-baked theory. In actuality, climate is controlled overwhelmingly by the sun and the earth's positionalrelationship to it playing out over geologic time, not short-term political cycles. Scientists are now coming to the realization that sun-induced cosmic rays and their effect on cloud cover may have a far greater impact on climatic variability. The primary reason CO2 was implicated, and supported by the environmental extremists, is that it can be used as an instrument of control. If it's the sun, we simply have to learn how to adapt. What's amazing is the amount of hyperbole that has been generated, and donations solicited by environmental groups on the basis of this fraudulent theory. We escaped a bullet a few years ago when the Senate refused to go along with Obama's "cap and trade" legislation, but not before CT's entire Congressional dlegation voted for the nonsense. Obama's own Treasury Dept. estimated the annual cost of "cap and trade" at $1,742 per family. Other studies projected the cost at $3,000, rising to $4,000 annually per family by 2032. And this all because of a one-third of a degree rise in globally averaged tempartures that had already stopped for 12 years by the time the House voted. Even now, Senators Murphy and Blumenthal are pushing the carbon dioxide fraud. Just further proof that liberalism is a mental disorder. Recently, Green guru and geophysicist James Lovelock, author of the Gaia hypothesis, and considered one of the pioneering scientists of the 20th century, officially turned his back on man-made global warming claims and the green movement’s focus on renewable energy. "Global warming" or "climate change"(the new term adopted because there has been no warming for 17 years) are the new religion, just as Lovelock says. Both the scientific community and the general public have awakened to the scam, the phenomenon of which speaks more to the human capacity for self-delusion than rational thought.

Rob W April 22, 2014 at 02:06 pm
@Kendall - you're certainly entitled to your opinion, though the politicizing of science isRead More inherently dangerous. You make several statements that are misleading at best, and I suspect that politicization of the issue has clouded your rational thought as well. I don't expect you to agree with me - or thousands of scientists - because your mind is set on believing that the vast majority of the scientific community is of a liberal leaning, money grabbing bent. You know that "conservative" scientists also work on the issue and agree with the climate change/warming consensus? Anyway, for anyone still reading, take time to inform yourself and try to remove ALL politics from your understanding of science. National Geographic does a great job in its online coverage of the issue, including this: http://energyblog.nationalgeographic.com/2010/12/21/climate-change-myth/ (In partnership with Shell Oil, lest anyone claim it's a liberal anti-business agenda).
