Police: South Windsor Man Got Into Accident in a Stolen Car

Jason Haynes, 30, struck a South Windsor public works vehicle from behind, resulting in numerous charges.

A South Windsor man is facing numerous charges after getting into an accident on Tuesday with a vehicle that was allegedly stolen, according to police.

Jason Haynes, 30, of C5 St. Marc Circle, was driving a 2005 Audi A8 on Pierce Road at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when he struck a South Windsor public works vehicle from behind, police say.

There were no injuries, Custer said. But when police investigated the accident, they learned that the vehicle was neither registered, nor insured and had a Maine license plate that did not belong on the car, according to police spokesman Scott Custer.

Police later learned that the car was listed as stolen from Springfield, Mass.
Haynes was charged with larceny in the third degree (possession of a stolen vehicle), operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of registration plates, no insurance, failure to renew license and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

He was later released on a $10,000 surety bond. Haynes is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on April 11.
