Meet Cindy Beaulieu, Republican Candidate for Town Council

I am Cindy Beaulieu and I am running for re-election to the Town Council.  I bring to the Council a unique perspective as a pension fund portfolio manager combined with municipal bond expertise.  My 20 years of investment experience has allowed me to see how fiscally responsible governments are rewarded with high ratings and low bond interest rates and that is something I think is very critical for our town.  During my term on the Council, we brought forward two initiatives along those lines, ending the reliance on the use of fund balance and improving the funding status of our pension plan.  Both of these elements are critical to maintaining our bond ratings which directly ties to my number one priority for our community, updating and improving our elementary schools.

Our elementary facilities are in drastic need of work and I am pleased to see the Board of Education moving forward with a comprehensive plan to address them.  These updates will require bonding which is why the Council needs to continue to be as responsible as possible with the budget.  This does not mean that other town priorities cannot and will not be addressed.  It means that our town needs Councilors that recognize the priorities and are willing and capable to create a strategic plan to address them.  I also believe we need to address the space needs of our most important community services, including our seniors, our youth and family services and our recreation department.  The potential closing of Wapping School will give of us the opportunity to do just that.  It is these types of investments in our town that will make South Windsor a desirable location for families and businesses, reducing the burden on taxpayers as we broaden our tax base.

I believe we need a Council that is willing to work together and am very encouraged that we saw the beginnings of that with the bipartisan compromise to pass the athletic fields proposal.  This type of cooperation and compromise is critical as we move ahead.  Please come out to vote on November 5th and elect the candidates that you feel are most capable of working together for a better South Windsor.
