South Windsor Police Investigating Rash of Weekend Car Burglaries

Lock your car doors as soon as you exit the vehicle, police are warnings residents after a series of car break-ins over the weekend.

South Windsor Police are investigating about a dozen car burglaries that occurred throughout town over the weekend.

According to police, the thefts occurred during the evenings of Saturday, Aug. 3, and Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, when a suspect or suspects entered a series of unlocked cars on Farmstead Drive, Greenfield Drive, Skyline Drive, Nutmeg Road North, Jessica Drive, Newmarker Road, Natsisky Farm Road, Leah Lane and Debbie Drive. Items stolen include loose change, wallets, cash and sunglasses, according to police.

"Residents are encouraged to secure their vehicles at all times, including rolling windows up and locking all doors.  Leaving exterior house lights on, such as porch lights or driveway lamps, deters criminal activity as well," South Windsor Police Sgt. Scott Custer said in a statement.

Anyone who information about the crimes or notices suspicious activity in their neighborhood is encouraged to call the South Windsor Department at 860-644-2551.

Similar incidents have also been reported inVernon and Ellington, according to police.
