Tom Delnicki's Vision and Priorities for South Windsor

Questions to the candidates before the Sept. 10 Republican primary.

Mayor Tom Delnicki said his vision for South Windsor is as simple as doing what’s right for people and following the Republican principle of fiscal restraint. In so doing, Delnicki said the town needs to “take care of what you have and get the most bang for your buck.”

“My vision is simple: I don’t want to be like another town. I want to continue being what we are – a great community that continues to improve each day. To say we should be like one town or another, that’s just plain wrong. We want to be ourselves and do what’s right for people as we continue improving.”

To do that, the town first mst fix its schools, Delnicki said.

“The priority we have to take a look at are the schools. That is really the 800 pound gorilla in the room. We need a plan that people can afford and people will line up to support…”

“Before we do anything else or throw something on another burner on the stove, we need to address that. We’ve been talking about everything else and you can throw out a whole laundry list of things but we should get the first priority done before you do five or six other things.”

Delnicki said he’s hearing support for his message from people in town who agree that the economy is still rough and people are struggling.

“People are telling me when it comes to the fields or a new hockey rink or a variety of things, we need to address the highest priority first before anything else."

Delnicki first served on the Town Council in 1995, then took a term off in 2007 and returned in 2009.
